Registering a Smartgyro e-scooter with the DGT: certified models and how to do it

Do you have to register a Smartgyro scooter?

Yes. Since 2026 every e-scooter must be registered with the DGT to be ridden, whatever the brand (Royal Decree 52/2026). It also needs the plate, insurance and, for the rider, a helmet.

Is your Smartgyro certified? The models on the DGT list

These are the 30 Smartgyro models on the DGT’s official list, updated on 23/10/2026. Look for yours by model or by the certificate number on the plate.

Some Smartgyro models are listed with a code (for example, SG27245-13) instead of the trade name. Also check the exact version: each version has its own certificate.

Where is the certificate number?

On the manufacturer’s black metal plate, in the “Nº certificado” field: one letter and four digits, such as A1057. It is usually at the base of the stem, under the deck where you stand or near the rear wheel. It is also on the technical sheet.

What if your Smartgyro isn’t on the list?

If you can’t find your Smartgyro by name or by code, check the plate: if it has no certificate number, it depends on when it was sold.

• If it was sold before 22 January 2024 and has no certificate number, it can be registered as a “non-certified vehicle”, but it can only be ridden until 22 January 2027.
• If it was sold later without a certificate, it cannot be registered: complain to the shop.

• A photo of the scooter’s plate showing the serial number.
