In Valencia, scooter registration is already being checked on the street. According to Valencia Extra, the Local Police have been fining scooters ridden without DGT registration since 22 June 2026. On top of that come the national rules that apply from 1 October 2026 and the restrictions on the city's public transport.
Local Police checks since 22 June
Registration has been compulsory throughout Spain since 30 January 2026 (Royal Decree 52/2026), but in Valencia the checks began on 22 June 2026. National law does not itself set a fine for not registering a scooter; what is clear is that, without registration and the label, the scooter cannot be ridden legally or insured, and riding without insurance carries a fine of €250 to €800. If you get around the city by scooter, keep it in order: registered, with the identification label and insured.

Metrovalencia, EMT and trains
According to the press, since the end of 2024 you cannot take your scooter on Metrovalencia or on EMT buses. Trains are a different matter: since 7 September 2026 Renfe has let passengers travel with their scooter on Cercanías (commuter), Media Distancia and Larga Distancia trains, provided it is certified, registered and insured, carries the label visibly and is folded and switched off. If you combine scooter and train, registration, the label and insurance are essential.
