Error paying the DGT fee for your scooter: what to do

Which fee do you have to pay to register the scooter?

Fee 4.1, which is €8.67 in 2026. Don't confuse it with fee 1.2 (€27.85), which is the one for mopeds. You pay it online within the procedure itself or beforehand, in the fee purchase section of the DGT's online office (sede electrónica).

The DGT takes payment through the payment gateway of the Agencia Tributaria (Spanish Tax Agency). You can pay by credit or debit card, Bizum (a Spanish mobile payment system) or a direct charge to your bank account. If you pay from your bank account, the account holder must be the same person who identified themselves with Cl@ve or a digital certificate.

The payment doesn't go through: card declined or the page doesn't come back

1. Check with your bank whether you've been charged before trying again. If you have, follow the steps in the next section.
2. If there's no charge, try another card, Bizum or a different browser. If you pay from your bank account, remember that the account has to be yours.
3. Another option: buy the fee separately, in the online office's fee purchase section, and then, at the fee step of the registration, enter its number or choose «Usar una tasa comprada a tu nombre» (Use a fee bought in your name).

I've been charged, but I can't see the fee number

Don't pay again. Do this, in order:

1. Search your email, including your spam folder, for messages with the subject «DGT. Identificador del pago de TASAS» (DGT. Fee payment identifier). The DGT sends two: one tells you about the payment attempt and the other contains the fees you bought.
2. Find the fee number: it has 12 digits and is on the last page of the receipt. Don't confuse it with the NRC, which is the code the bank gives the payment.
3. If you don't have the receipt, recover it in the DGT's fee payment lookup, using the «Consultar Pedidos» (Check orders) option. You need the NRC: your bank gives it to you with the charge and, if you don't have it, you can get it from the Agencia Tributaria's online office.
4. Start the registration again and, at the fee step, choose «Ya tengo una tasa que quiero usar». The DGT says so itself: if the registration wasn't completed because of an error, the fee you paid can be reused.

In the same lookup you can see whether the fee has already been applied (used) or not. If it shows as used and you don't have the registration certificate, don't buy another one: call 060.

I've paid twice or bought the wrong fee

Use one and ask for a refund of the other. The DGT refunds the amount if you paid by mistake, paid twice, overpaid or aren't going to use the fee:

• Online, through the electronic registry, identifying yourself with Cl@ve, a digital certificate or an electronic DNI, or in person at a Jefatura de Tráfico (provincial traffic office), with an appointment.
• You need the refund application form and the payment receipt. If you didn't pay it yourself, you also need authorisation from the person who did.
• There's no fixed deadline: the DGT warns that it can take around 6 months.

If you bought the wrong fee, for example fee 1.2 for mopeds, buy fee 4.1 and ask for a refund of the other one.

Does the fee expire?

The DGT doesn't say that it expires. If you paid it in a previous year and the price has gone up, you can update it by paying only the difference, with the «Actualizar Tasas» (Update fees) option.

What if nothing works?

Call 060 or book an appointment at a Jefatura de Tráfico. Or leave it to us: we register it for €35 all inclusive, fee included, and normally in under 24 hours once the documents are complete. If you've already paid a fee you're not going to use, you can ask for a refund as explained above.
