In what ways can a scooter be registered with the DGT?

Registration is requested by the scooter's owner (or their legal guardian) and there are three ways to do it. In the first two you submit it yourself; in the third, a gestoría (a Spanish administrative agency) submits it for you.

The scooter's details are the same in all three cases. If it is certified: the technical data sheet with the certificate number (a letter and four digits, such as B1134) and a photo of the manufacturer's plate showing the serial number. If it is not: the make, model and serial number. If the scooter belongs to a company, it is registered with the company's NIF (tax number) and a representative, and only online.

How do we do it with your driving licence?

Today the DGT only accepts three ways of identifying a scooter's owner: Cl@ve PIN, a digital certificate or a Spanish driving licence. If you have a Spanish driving licence, it is the simplest option: you do not have to sign up for Cl@ve (the Spanish public administration's online identification system) or install any certificate. We identify you with your licence details and do the rest of the procedure.

The scooter is registered in your name, not the gestoría's, and the registration certificate shows your details as the owner.

With us, the process works like this:

1. You fill in the form with your details and attach your documents.
2. In the last step, before paying, you authorise us to carry out the procedure on your behalf.
3. We submit the registration to the DGT and pay the €8.67 fee, which is included in the €35.
4. We email you the registration certificate in PDF, with your registration number (M 0000 AAA), in under 24 hours once your documents are complete.

What do we ask for, and why?

You need legal residence in Spain and your DNI or NIE, and the DGT requires you to identify yourself with one of these three methods: Cl@ve PIN, a digital certificate or a Spanish driving licence. If you have a Spanish driving licence, you don't need Cl@ve or a digital certificate: we identify you with your licence and handle the whole procedure for you. The licence is only used to identify you; you don't need one to ride a scooter.

• DNI or NIE, both sides. The scooter is registered in a person's name, and the DGT identifies them with that document.
• Spanish driving licence, both sides (or, if you do not have one, Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate). It is one of the three identification methods the DGT accepts; you do not need a licence to ride.
• Technical data sheet or a photo of the plate showing the serial number. We use them to identify the scooter to the DGT.
• Purchase invoice. It is optional: attach it if you have it.
• Email address and home address. The certificate is sent to your email, and the home address is the one we give the DGT.

What if you do not have a Spanish driving licence?

Then you need Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate, the other two identification methods the DGT accepts. Message us on WhatsApp and we will explain how to do it in your case; the price is the same.

If you have none of the three, the alternative is to register the scooter yourself in person, with an appointment at the DGT.

Can I register it if I am a foreign resident?

Yes, if you have legal residence in Spain, which is what the DGT requires. This is what foreign residents need to know:

• NIE: the scooter is registered in your name with your NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero, the identity number for foreign nationals in Spain). A passport on its own is not enough.
• Legal residence: the DGT only registers scooters for people who are legally resident in Spain.
• Identification: a Spanish driving licence is valid. If your licence was issued in another country, it is not one of the three accepted methods, so use Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate instead.

Frequently asked questions about registering without Cl@ve

Can I register my scooter with a passport?

Not with a passport alone. The DGT asks for a DNI or NIE and legal residence in Spain. If you are a foreign national legally resident here, we register it with your NIE.

My driving licence is from another country. Can I use it?

Not to identify yourself: the DGT accepts a Spanish driving licence, Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate. If your licence was issued in another country, use Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate instead; you also need legal residence in Spain and your NIE.

Do I need a driving licence to register the scooter?

It is not compulsory. With us, any one of these three is enough to identify you: a Spanish driving licence, Cl@ve PIN or a digital certificate. If you do it yourself on the DGT's online portal, you need Cl@ve, an electronic DNI or a digital certificate.

Can I register the scooter online without a digital certificate?

Yes, if you have a Spanish driving licence: it is one of the three identification methods the DGT accepts. With us the process is 100% online: you fill in the form, attach your documents and we send you the registration certificate in PDF.

My scooter is not certified. Can it still be registered?

Yes. It is registered with its make, model and serial number, and it can be ridden until 22 January 2027; after that it can no longer be ridden. The price is the same: €35 all included.

How long does registration take?

We send you the certificate in under 24 hours once your documents are complete.

What happens if it cannot be processed?

If the mistake is ours, we redo it at no cost. If it cannot be processed, we refund the amount paid minus €2 in bank charges.
