What is the 48-hour digital certificate?
A digital certificate is like your ID card, but for the internet: it lets you identify yourself for DGT procedures without going to an office. The 48-hour one is created in your name by Firmaprofesional, the company we work with. We only use it to register your scooter and it stops working after 48 hours, so you don’t need to keep it or do anything with it afterwards.
It’s for people who have none of the three usual ways to identify themselves: Cl@ve PIN, a digital certificate or a Spanish driving licence. If you have one of the three, you don’t need it and registration costs €35.
Who can get it?
Anyone who lives in Spain and meets these conditions:
- 18 or over. If the scooter belongs to a minor, their parent or guardian applies (how it works).
- A Spanish mobile number. The certificate contract is signed by SMS.
- A DNI, or a valid NIE with your address in Spain. Being registered on the padrón is not enough: the address must appear on the document.
- A passport, only if your DNI or NIE has no photo of you, for example the green EU citizen registration certificate.
What if I don’t have…?
These are the questions we get most. In almost every case, we can still register your scooter:
| If you don’t have… | Can we register it? |
|---|---|
| Cl@ve PIN | Yes. We create the 48-hour digital certificate for you. |
| A digital certificate | Yes. We create a 48-hour one for you. |
| A Spanish driving licence | Yes. You don’t need a licence to register it or to ride a scooter. |
| The purchase invoice | Yes. We don’t ask for it. |
| The technical sheet | Yes. A photo of the scooter’s plate with the serial number is enough. |
| A Spanish mobile number | Not with the 48-hour certificate: the contract is signed by SMS on a Spanish mobile. |
| A DNI or NIE with your address in Spain | No. With a passport alone, or a NIE without your address, we can’t register it. |
How does it work?
Four steps, and we do almost all of it:
- In the form you choose “I have none”, tell us whether your DNI or NIE has your photo on it and pay for your order.
- Within 1 or 2 hours you get an SMS to sign the certificate contract (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm).
- You get an email from Firmaprofesional, the company that creates the certificate: don’t touch anything and forward it to patinetes@ntcars.es within 48 hours.
- In under 24 hours from receiving your email, we send you the DGT registration certificate.
If you pay in the evening, at night or at the weekend, the SMS reaches you on the next working day.
How much does it cost?
€10 more than a standard registration. This is each case, with the DGT fee (€8.67) and VAT included:
| What you order | With Cl@ve, certificate or licence | With none (48-hour certificate) |
|---|---|---|
| DGT registration only | €35 | €45 |
| Registration + plate | €45 + €4.95 shipping | €55 + €4.95 shipping |
What if I don’t forward the email in time?
The certificate expires after 48 hours. If you don’t forward us the Firmaprofesional email before then, it can no longer be used and you lose the €10. That’s why it’s important to check your email (including the spam folder) as soon as you sign the SMS. If you have any questions, write to us before the 48 hours are up.
Is it safe?
Yes. The certificate is created in your name, we only use it to register your scooter and it stops working after 48 hours. It is handled by a gestoría run by a licensed gestor administrativo (no. 4213), and your documents are treated as explained in our privacy policy.
Frequently asked questions about the 48-hour digital certificate
Can I register my scooter without a digital certificate?
Yes. If you don’t have a digital certificate, Cl@ve or a Spanish driving licence, we create a 48-hour digital certificate for you for €10 more and register your scooter with the DGT for you. You need your DNI, or your NIE with your address in Spain, and a Spanish mobile number.
Is there a gestoría that does it online without Cl@ve or a digital certificate?
Yes, we do. NT Cars does it 100% online anywhere in Spain: with your licence, Cl@ve or digital certificate for €35, and if you have none of them, by creating a 48-hour digital certificate for you for €10 more.
Can I get it with just my passport?
No. You need a DNI or a NIE with your address in Spain. Your passport is only needed as well if your DNI or NIE has no photo of you.
How long does it take?
The SMS to sign arrives within 1 or 2 hours, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. The DGT registration certificate arrives in under 24 hours from when you forward us the Firmaprofesional email.
Can I use it later for other procedures?
No. It expires after 48 hours and we only use it to register your scooter. For other procedures with the Spanish authorities you can get Cl@ve PIN, which is free (how to get it).
Shall we register your scooter?
From €35 with the DGT fee and VAT included. If you don’t have Cl@ve, a certificate or a licence, we create the 48-hour digital certificate for you · 100% online · certificate in under 24 hours
