1. Is it a general fault?
If you see «El sistema al que intenta acceder no se encuentra operativo en este momento, por motivos de mantenimiento» (The system you are trying to access is not operational at the moment due to maintenance), the DGT is carrying out maintenance: wait and try again later. And since you log in through Cl@ve (the Spanish government's online ID system), a Cl@ve outage also leaves the online office inaccessible.
There's no official page showing the service status. You can call 060: the automated service works 24 hours a day, and you can speak to an agent Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. If a lot of people are doing the procedure, try first thing in the morning or at night.
2. Check your browser
- Use an up-to-date browser with cookies and JavaScript enabled. On mobile, the DGT recommends Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
- Check your computer with the online office's «Verificación de mi equipo» (Check my computer) tool, which checks your system, browser and JavaScript.
- If it gets stuck on «Redirigiendo a Cl@ve» (Redirecting to Cl@ve) or on a screen that doesn't move on, try another browser or a private window, without extensions or ad blockers, without a VPN and with pop-ups allowed.
3. Check how you're identifying yourself
- Cl@ve Móvil or Cl@ve PIN: a Cl@ve Móvil request expires after 5 minutes and a PIN after 10. If it expires, request a new one. If the text message doesn't arrive, check that the mobile number registered with Cl@ve is yours.
- Access blocked: if you fail too many times in one day, Cl@ve blocks access until the next day.
- A method is greyed out or error (66) appears: your Cl@ve registration doesn't have the level the procedure requires. You need to upgrade it in person or with a digital certificate.
- Digital certificate: it must be valid and not revoked (the online office links you to VALIDe to check it). Some antivirus programs that scan secure connections stop the browser from asking for the certificate. Use the browser you installed it in.
- You don't need AutoFirma (the government's electronic signature app) to register the scooter: the DGT only asks for it in procedures that require a signature.
4. If you'd already paid the fee
Don't pay it again. Start the registration again and, at the fee step, choose «Ya tengo una tasa que quiero usar» (I already have a fee I want to use). If you don't have the number, recover it as we explain in what to do if the fee payment fails.
5. Other ways
- The miDGT app: the DGT lists it as one of the ways to register.
- In person, with an appointment at a Jefatura de Tráfico (provincial traffic office), booked online or on 060.
- Through a gestoría (a licensed agency that deals with Spanish authorities for you): we do it for €35 all inclusive, fee included, and with your Spanish driving licence you don't need Cl@ve or a digital certificate (more in registering your scooter without Cl@ve).
If you get a warning that your scooter's certificate number can't be found, the problem isn't the online office: see what to do if you get «certificado no encontrado» (certificate not found).
Frequently asked questions
Why won't the DGT online office load?
It may be maintenance or a general outage, of the DGT or of Cl@ve, or a problem with your browser or the way you're identifying yourself. If you see the maintenance notice, wait and try again later.
Do I need AutoFirma to register the scooter?
No. The DGT only asks for AutoFirma in procedures that require a signature, and registering a scooter doesn't.
It's stuck on «Redirigiendo a Cl@ve» (Redirecting to Cl@ve). What do I do?
Try another up-to-date browser with cookies enabled, or a private window without extensions. If it's failing for everyone, wait: it may be a Cl@ve outage.
I got an error after paying the fee. Do I pay it again?
No. Start the registration again and, at the fee step, choose «Ya tengo una tasa que quiero usar» (I already have a fee I want to use).
Who do I call if the online office isn't working?
060. The automated service works 24 hours a day, and you can speak to an agent Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. From abroad, call +34 902 887 060.
Would you rather we did it for you?
